Blind Whisky Tasting Game

The Hidden Cask

Neat Judgement

A blind whisky tasting game for friends, flavour hunters and competitive whisky lovers.

πŸ’‘ How to play the game

Each player buys a bottle of whisky, keeping the name and type completely secret. Ask a friend or family member who is not playing to create four blind samples.

This fun and revealing game lets you and your friends rate whiskies without knowing what’s in each glass β€” removing bias and letting your senses lead the way. You might be surprised which bottle comes out on top, and how your favourite tipple fares when the labels are hidden.

Smell, taste, score... and enjoy.

πŸ₯ƒ Game Setup

This game is best played by using a friend, family member or non-player to set up the samples. The idea is that none of the players know which bottle is which.

1. Choose 4 different whiskies

Try to keep the selection varied β€” different styles, price points, or regions add to the fun. Agree a budget per player and get adventurous.

2. Keep the brands hidden from players

Players should only see the glass or unbranded bottle and should have no idea which bottle is which. Original bottle shapes, labels and colours can give the game away.

3. Number the bottles or glasses

Option A: Have a non-player pour each whisky into a brand-free decanter or clean bottle. Label them clearly as 1–4 and enter the real names into the game.

Option B: If using original bottles, pour small samples into identical glasses and label the glasses 1–4.

4. Track the bottle names

Enter the real whisky names into the game. They are kept secret until the end. Do not allow players to see the bottles being entered.

5. Serve the whiskies

Ideally each player has their own glass. For couples, sharing can work. For two couples, set out eight glasses: four for each couple. Each player tests the sample by nose and palate, then enters their score.

6. Play the game

Players enter scores between 1 and 5 based on nose and palate. Optional notes can be added to capture aromas, flavours and guesses. After each round, you will see a summary before moving to the next round or completing the game.

Email results and group games

Adding an email lets players receive results, group future games, access personal stats, and build their own tasted-bottle collection. E-mail is optional, and this is not a marketing list β€” it is just for fellow whisky lovers to enjoy the game.
